With our minor baseball and softball seasons starting to wind down it’s time to get ready for our 2nd annual 100 Inning Ball Game in Port Hood. This is the primary fundraiser for Dave Muise Ball Field, and it only works with the help of all our players!
The game will be played on Saturday, September 9th starting at 9am. Different age groups will be made into 2 teams to compete all day long. The score is carried over from one age group to the next for 100 innings.
To earn prizes players will need to get their friends and family to sponsor them at 10¢ an inning (download and print your pledge sheet). For every $100 in pledges raised by a player their name is entered into a draw with a grand prize of a new Apple iPod Touch 32GB.
Last year we raised over $5,000 and Brandon MacKenzie won the iPod! The funds paid for extensive new infield drainage & soil upgrades, as well as new bases.
This is a family fun day with food and drinks available. Children and parents of all ages are welcome to participate in the game. The schedule will be determined based on age of players. Prior to game day we’ll send an email with playing times by age group.
To participate please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the name and age of your players.
Be sure to pass this on to anyone you think might be interested in participating.

We have ~30 Mosquito 11U kids registered so far and are anticipating upwards of 35+ players this Summer. We will be offering up to 3 teams, a Mosquito ‘A’ travel team that will play in the provincial league and 1 or 2 house league teams that will play in the local Cape Breton Baseball League.
The Mosquito ‘A’ team is open to anyone who is interested in trying out. The provincial league that it will play in will require a fairly substantial commitment level as games will be played anywhere from Sydney to Yarmouth, depending on the league schedule. League begins play on the weekend of June 3/4 and goes until the end of August with 25-30 games being played before the final provincial tournament. There will be a minimum of 2 practices per week during weekday evenings and for July/August the practices will be mid-morning.
The house league teams will play in the same Cape Breton league as last year where games are played between Port Hawkesbury, St.Peters, Arichat, and New Waterford. The league usually begins late June and goes until mid-august and then ends with a final league tournament. Same as last year, the option will be there for the coaches to form a ‘B’ team that will attend district playdowns and potentially attending provincials. Practices will be up to the individual coaches but will usually be 1-2 per week.
There will be a total of 4 tryout dates for Mosquito ‘A’ and the first two will be this weekend.
- Saturday May 13th @ 5pm at the Judique Field
- Sunday May 14th @ 5:30pm at the Judique Field
The remaining 2 will be next week, days to be determined.
Please have players dressed appropriately, baseball pants (preferred) or track pants with a T-shirt and/or sweater (no jeans allowed). All players must wear a baseball cap and bring their own gloves. Players can bring their own bats if they wish.
Once tryouts have been completed the roster will be posted on the Port Hood Minor Baseball website. House league team rosters will be posted as well once coaches have been confirmed for both teams. If anyone is interested in helping coach a house league team please let Kenzie or Sheldon know.
The Port Hood field is currently under some infield construction and should be available for use within the next couple of weeks.
Any cancellations due to weather we will send out an email.
